Bug Hunt / Study
Kids transform into mini entomologists! Send students out on a bug hunt over the weekend. Then, they bring their bug to class on Monday to study: coloring, legs, wings. Is their specimen an insect? Encourage kids to draw their bug with a suitable habitat in a "jar" (pictured below). What kind of things should they add to make their bug feel at home? Afterwards, have students create a bubble map for their insect descriptions and facts. Then, students pair up with a friend and compare their insects using a venn diagram. How are they similar? How are they different? You can download different types of thinking maps here! Click here for a PBL lesson plan set up in 3 phases!
